Sarah Jesicca Parker Expecting Twins from Surrogate

Sarah Jessica Parker (born March 25, 1965), is best known for her leading role as Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO television series Sex and the City, for which she won four Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Emmy Awards. She played the same role in the feature film version of the show, which was released on May 30, 2008.

On May 19, 1997, she married actor Matthew Broderick, to whom she was introduced by one of her brothers at the Naked Angels theater company, where they both performed. The couple, who have been married for 12 years, have one son, 6-year-old James Wilkie Broderick who was born on October 28, 2002.

On April 28, 2009 just as stories were about to break with the news, the couple announced they were expecting twins via a surrogate.

Representatives for the couple confirmed the news, saying:
"Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate. The entire family is overjoyed."

Parker explained why she chose to go the surrogate route.

All this comes at what should be one of the happiest times in the lives of the couple, who turned to a surrogate out of necessity. "We have been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so," Parker says. "It would have been odd to have made this choice if I was able to have had successful pregnancies since my son's birth."

The couple have also explained some of the surrogacy process with their 6-year-old son James Wilkie. "I've been pretty candid with him," she says. "I kind of chartered my own course with him because we wanted to keep this quiet and so I wanted to be very careful about telling him so he wasn't burdened with a secret. On the other hand, I wanted him to have time to adjust to the idea of sharing his mama and his papa."

The Surrogate Compromised

Safety is, in fact, Parker's main concern. Since the baby news broke, shes been shocked that a tabloid has targeted her surrogate. Not only has the woman carrying the twins been identified, but she has been followed, something that is troubling for the star.

I am incredibly outraged by the sort of extraordinary and unprecedented invasion of her privacy, Parker said. The most unsavory things have been done, she continued. Shes had her phone hacked, her personal computer information hacked, shes had threats against her and true harassment Shes had friends threatened and family threatened and shes had family of friends threatened.

A pregnant friend of the surrogate was also chased by the paparazzi, Parker claims.

Shes had a friend who was thought to be her chased down a highway This friend is nine months pregnant chased down a highway by photographers and dare I call them reporters. I guess thats how they identify themselves, she said. Its crossed lines Pretty much all the lines have been crossed.

When contacted by Access Hollywood, Star magazine claims that much of the information from their stories was posted online including on MySpace by the surrogate herself. They additionally claim they contacted her for comment as is their normal practice.

Star denies that it used any unfair tactics in getting information for the article about Sarah Jessica Parkers surrogate, the mag said in a statement to Access.
