WISHLIST: PERSOL 2979

What's on my current wishlist? I'll give you a hint: I wrote about this brand in December. Persol is fast becoming a favorite brand of mine. Sunglass Hut stock these tortoise shell beauties and the best part is they only go for R1770!  These crystal lense glasses are perfect for our climate, add a plaid shirt and rolled up chino's to complete the look.

Persol sunglass envy

Photobucket

Designed and crafted in Italy, Persol (from the Italian "per il sole" or "for the sun") is a hit among tastemakers and celebrities for impeccable fit and clarity. The brands patented Meflecto temples offer a secure fit, while crystal-tempered lenses offer protection with distortion free vision. Perfect for the sometimes unreasonable weather we have in Cape Town.

The brand is most known for their Steve McQueen (PO 714) glasses that were made famous when he wore them in "The Thomas Crown Affair". Naturally what followed was a host of leading men donning their own Persol shades. What was more surprising (or perhaps not so much today) was the female interest, notably Julia Roberts in her latest movie "Eat, Pray, Love".

While these beautiful sunglasses are not yet available on our shores they do offer other styles from Persol at Sunglass Hut, which include these PO2363S shades. I love the look but a square shape is not flattering for my long and oval face. Considering which sunglasses compliment your face the most should be your main objective. Not just satisfying a trend you enjoy.

This is definitely a brand to consider the next time you pop in to Sunglass Hut!

Rachel Bilson is your Sunglass Hut Style Adviser

Photobucket
I'm a big fan of cute. Rachel Bilson is just that. She may not be an Oscar nominated actress or a Darfur humanitarian but she's sweet and pretty and has great style. Sunglass hut joined forces with Bilson and made her Style Adviser, which if you ask me is a great idea.  In her blog she showcases different styles for both men and women while adding her own unique style of commentary. Catch these and other styles in your nearest Sunglass Hut store today.

Finally sunglasses you can actually wear indoors!

Photobucket

Chris Viljoen of Elle recently did a write up about pretentious people who wear sunglasses long after the sun goes down to fashion events, in malls and so on. I agree 100%.
With advances in technology speeding by as they do, and with 3D movies taking over modern cinema it really is no surprise that a design house took over those shabby nerd frames and gave them a makeover. Come December Gucci will release the "optically correct 6-base curved lenses with circular polarized technology" designer frames at a ludicrous small cost of $225, but only in Gucci boutiques. As for Armani Exchange their follow up aviator style shades will retail for $85 (that's $140 cheaper than Gucci) exclusively in the US starting in December.

Will you be seeing enough 3D movies to justify the purchase of these? I'm going to wait until Jeremy Scott and Lady GaGa create something a little more fun.

Fold-up Ray-Ban Wayfarers from Sunglass Hut

Photobucket
I guess it goes to show; some styles never go out of style. Or perhaps it can now we classified as "classic" as opposed to a style that is "trendy". Either way Ray-Ban Wayfarers were cool when Tom Cruise wore them in Risky Business and they're cool now.

Photobucket
I am a fan of trends but I avoid the more colourful variety that this particular style offers.  Neon Wayfarers are great if you can afford yourself the luxury of several pairs. Last year for my birthday I was given a pair of the black fold-up wayfarers with the small leather case. Thrilled, I then wore them solidly for a year before changing styles last month. Sunglass Hut then released a newer version in tortoise shell, which I finally got my hands on yesterday.
These are especially great because they literally fold up into a small piece that you can put (safely) into a shirt or jacket pocket. Retailing for only R1790 from Sunglass Hut.

My dad owned a pair of Aviators when I was a kid. He also had a beard so I suppose in some way i've accepted that we eventually grow into our parents. Aviators signify manliness to me. It's a pity that they have become such a huge trend because it takes an element away from the icon that it is. Aviators were made famous by Tom Cruise in Top Gun, although manly in design they are often preferred by starlets like Megan Fox. Not that we complain because, let's face it they do look good.

Photobucket

There are many variations, some have one-sided lenses, or gold frames, silver frames, coloured frames. They have different names like The Outdoorsman, The Shooter... but the classic Aviators steal the show as front man, time after time. Sunglass hut stock them and they retail for R2070 and are polarized! I carry mine around with me everywhere I go and what's even better is Aviators go with any look. You can't beat classic style.

Spec this out!

Last week I took a random look at what Spitfire had in-store. So although I am perfectly happy with my Ray-bans for now it's always fun to see what they have in the family of eccentric styles. I have been looking for a pair of Horn-rimmed reading glasses for a while now, and what I found instead was a very cool pair of round glasses. Paul Smith, Oliver Peoples and Tom Ford make some gorgeous pairs, altough expensive for something I don't need per say.

Fake-specs are fun and all but they aren't really the kind of fashion accessory you can wear all day long without feeling the effects of it. Try not to wear it all day, it can't be good for your eyes. But they are fun! Here are some other versions being used in and around this fashionable world of ours.

Ready for Take-off

Aviator!

I finally got my Fossil Aviator watch. Been eyeing it for some time now and now it's mine. Perfect for my jacket too! Now I can look like Tom Cruise!... sort of. My folks were in Miami this month and decided to surprise me. You should just know how expensive Fossil is here compared to the U.S! Now the look is complete! Muchas Gracias.

memories made in the coldest wintour

anna wintour and i have something in common!
she's been recently quoted as saying that she loves to wear sunglasses outdoors as well as indoors. she says that she can "sit through a show bored out of my mind and not have anyone notice." she also says, "they have become armor".

i love sunglasses for the same reason. not only do they protect your eyes from the sun, they protect them from other people! people can tell how you feel by looking at your eyes, but if your eyes are concealed no one knows if you're asleep, awake, or if you have a bunch of old eye makeup on your face. i ride the train and bus a lot and i love to have my sunglasses on so no one can see my eyes. then i can just have a vacant expression and stare at nothing and not seem strange, or i can stare at people who look interesting and not have them look up or stare back. and even if they do look up at me, i don't care-- because i have sunglasses. :)

scintillating sunnies

sunglasses are amazing.
1. they are a celebrity must. sunglasses protect celeb's eyes from being blinded by thousands of paparazzi bulbs flashing.
2. if you had a bad night or you're having a bad morning, sunglasses can cover up your bloodshot eyes/dark under-eye circles.
3. they make you look posh and important, or totally cool and untouchable if you get the right pair for your face shape.
4. they can make things sepia, purple, or rose toned because most of them have amazing tinted lenses.

here are a few shades that i've loving right now.

my favorite pairs here are...well...actually...i like all of them. the proenza schouler oversized square sunglasses in white are so beautiful. i love the shape, the size, and the color. look how posh and awesome that model looks! and all it took were some proenza schouler sunglasses....sigh.

the oliver peoples chelsea sunglasses from shopbop.com are equally impressive. i love the size, the gradiated lenses, and the beautiful thin tortoiseshell frames. i love tortoiseshell, and i think these tortoiseshell frames were smoothed beautifully.

i love forever 21's fake wayfarers because they come in navy or brown, slightly unexpected shades from the usual black, and those sunglasses ads are so chic. why? in the prada ad an unusual sunglasses shape is featured, and in the chanel ad tasteful embellishment on the sunnies are used. look for shades with special touches to make you stand out from the crowd.
